Materials development

Schools that progress in raising pupils’ learning achievement must have resources to support learning. All involved in ensuring learning takes place must have materials. Students must also have access to textbooks and writing materials if they must do well. ESSPIN’s attempt at addressing the huge gap of lack of instructional resources was to create lesson plans from the National Curriculum (NERDC) for the teachers on Literacy and Numeracy. Pupils’ recommended textbooks were used as references while stories in the books were placed in the plans to cater for inadequate books in the schools. Assessment Manuals were also produced to support the teachers in assessing pupils’ learning.

E-readers containing about 138 readers and textbooks were also supplied to 20 pilot schools to evaluate the impact of resources on children’s learning in Kaduna and Lagos states.
