Annual School Census - The Kwara Perspective

The Annual School Census (ASC) is an activity designed to capture relevant data as needed for adequate planning and administration of education in Nigeria. Over the years, logistics have been a major challenge towards the successful implementation of this annual event.

The 2009 Census in Kwara state with the support of ESSPIN was better planned as a result of trainings received by enumerators on information and data gathering and accurately transferring same on to the census forms. It is therefore apparent that the ASC has been given a new lease of life courtesy of ESSPIN’s involvement in the activity. The process has also been decentralized in order for states to take full responsibility for the activity including the printing of forms and the training of relevant staff.

The Communications Committee in Kwara supported the census activity by producing branded vests for the enumerators. The stakeholders identified with the process and are willing to make the census exercise the best of its kind going forward.
