Enugu holds Pre-MTSS Development workshop

Enugu state government is committed to ensuring the development of a quality MTSS and the success of Enugu State Government-ESSPIN partnership for quality basic education provision in the State. This commitment was expressed in a communiqué issued at the end of a 2 day preparatory workshop for the development of the 210-2013 Medium-Term Sector Strategy for the state.

The workshop which took place on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 2010 had in attendance 80 participants including Dr. Festus Uzor, Commissioner of Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Kate Ego Eze Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Chief (Mrs) Ethel N. Ezeabasili and Barrister Chike Ene, Chairman and Permanent Secretary of Enugu State Universal Basic Education (ENSUBEB) respectively.

Other participants are drawn from the Post-Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), State Scholarship Board (SSB), State Library Board (SLB), Science, Technical and Vocational Schools’ Management Board (STVSMB) and top-ranking representatives of the State Economic Planning Commission (ENEPC), Budget Office, Ministry of Finance, CSACEFA, ANCOPSS, PTA and other relevant CSOs.

The workshop created a forum and initiated a process for major education stakeholders in the State to begin reaching a consensus on:

  1. The key issues and challenges of the State education sector/system.
  2. Educational development priorities for 2011-2013 and strategies
  3. The State’s education policy goals and objectives as well as targets for 2010 -2013
  4. Communication strategies and follow-up actions to draw government attention to the need for increased budgetary allocation to the education sector.
  5. Follow-up actions on the development of a realistic and implementable MTSS.
There was clear evidence that the workshop led to a better understanding of MTSS and its development process  by key education stakeholders in the State.
